Boating around Capri offers spectacular views of the Island and the sparkling turquoise sea as well as swimming in the magnificent grottos. Your hotel can make all the arrangements for a boat for you. Another option is to rent a boat directly from Giovanni Aprea at Capri Leisure; Giovanni is incredibly charming, and he’s a wonderful resource about Capri.

What is GOOD TO KNOW by
Take a private boat tour around the Island including a visit to the Blue Grotto, an underwater cavern where the light creates an otherworldly blue reflection. To enter, you transfer from your boat to one of the rowboats for hire outside the grotto. These rowboats can hold only two or three people, and you have to crouch on the bottom to enter the low opening of the grotto. Be aware that this is a tourist spot, and there’s often a long wait because of all the tour boats. Check weather conditions with the hotel because the grotto is closed when the sea is rough. Other highlights of a boat tour are a stop to swim in the gorgeous Green Grotto and a view of Casa Malaparte, the stunning modern home and architectural masterpiece that is featured in Godard’s film Contempt. There are many wonderful possibilities for lunch in Capri including Torre Saracena and Lido de Faro, or for a special treat, head over to Quatro Passi in Nerano or La Conca del Sogno in Recommone located on the Amalfi coast between Capri and Positano. All the lunch spots are very casual; it’s fine to dine in a bathing suit with a cover-up.
You can rent a fast or slow boat. The fast boat can reach Nerano or Recommone in approximately 20 minutes if you’re going directly while a small boat can take 40 minutes to an hour. It all depends on how much you like boats and whether you’re in a hurry. The fast boats are also much more expensive.
