A Lovingly Compiled 'Grab and Go' List of Hotels, Restaurants, Art, Sightseeing, and Shopping.

We love the Left Bank because this chic residential neighborhood makes us feel like we live in Paris surrounded by charming shops and cafes. We know we’re giving up the grandeur and large rooms of the opulent Right Bank hotels, but for us, the trade-off is worth it. We do have favorites on the Right Bank too and offer choices that include grand luxury hotels and more intimate boutique settings.

A Closer Look at what WE LOVE and what's goodtoknow GOOD TO KNOW

The Four Seasons is near the Avenue Montaigne and Champs Elysees and is very welcoming to children.

This lovely, welcoming 49-room hotel is located in the 6th arrondissement with it’s wonderful shops and restaurants and within walking distance to the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay and Notre Dame.  Rue Dauphine is very near to Rue de Buci and Rue de Seine with their lively cafe life and food shops. The concierge staff is a definite plus – they are highly professional, efficient, gracious and attentive to their guests’ every need. The rooms are quite comfortable if not glamorous and those on the central courtyard are protected from the noise of the street.  During the summer months when guests often linger in the courtyard for a drink, those seeking a particularly quiet room should request one facing the back.  Check online for the special three night packages which offer lower rates and such amenities as breakfast, afternoon tea and a ticket to the Musee D’Orsay or the Louvre.  While there is free wi-fi access in the rooms and lobby of the hotel, it isn’t always the most efficient for ipads and iphones; there are plans to upgrade the service.

This small and intimate 60-room boutique hotel near the Champs Elysees is home to the famed restaurant, La Table du Hotel Lancaster.

A grand and elegant luxury hotel, The Bristol boasts impeccable service and comfortable, traditionally decorated,  well-appointed rooms.  There is a large spa complex and pool for relaxing and exercising, and a location convenient to the finest boutiques. The hotel was recently renovated adding 26 new rooms and suites to the existing 161 rooms.  In warm weather, the outdoor garden offers a perfect dining spot.  The three-star Le Bristol restaurant is a sumptuous and very expensive dining spot located in the hotel. In fact, all the dining options in the hotel, while very good, are super expensive.  And for those traveling with family, despite, the grand setting, the hotel very accommodating towards children.

Intimate and chic 56-room hotel with attractive albeit very small rooms decorated in modern or traditional styles. The location is absolutely terrific with the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay, and every kind of shop imaginable nearby. Given the size of the rooms, we prefer a suite or deluxe double. The modern deluxe doubles are larger than the traditional ones but they are still small. Junior Suite 81 is one room with a glorious view of the Eiffel Tower. Other junior suites like 77-78 in the back have a sitting room and an extra bathroom. If you like to sleep with the windows open, a high floor or a room in the back may be preferable because traffic on the rue de Bac can be noisy. The concierge and staff are helpful and friendly. In warm weather, it’s lovely to sit outside and have a drink in front of the hotel.  Special lower cost packages are available on the internet for stays of 2 or 3 nights, and the business package includes free internet access.

A quiet retreat off the Place de Vosges located in a pretty garden, this intimate 54-room boutique hotel offers beautifully decorated rooms and suites located on a quiet courtyard.  It’s a luxurious choice for someone wanting to stay in the Marais. Check the website for special rates offered throughout the year.

Just off  the Avenue Montaigne with its fashionable boutiques is this 44-room cozy hotel with its elegant, traditional decor. They pride themselves on seeing to their guests every need as well as combining modern technology, including fax lines and wi-fi, with old world charm.

A rare bargain in the 7th arrondissement, this charming hotel is well situated on a quiet side street that’s close to attractions on both the left and right bank. The rooms are small but well maintained, and the staff is welcoming. Though well-priced, the rooms smaller than a double deluxe can be tight, and note that not all the rooms are air-conditioned.

On a quiet street in the heart of the 6th arrondissement, is this tres chic 20-room hotel known as Oscar Wilde’s residence for many years.  Recently remodeled, it is now a fantasy of the Belle Epoch life; each room has a different decor with elegant and unusual antiques, and the lobby and bar transport you to another era.  The “Chic” rooms with their gorgeous furnishings are a comfortable size and face the quiet courtyard.  They also have large bathrooms, and separate shower and additional toilet in another room.  There is a hamman and small pool which are available for private booking.  The gracious and welcoming staff adds to the pleasant ambiance.

The Park Hyatt Paris is conveniently located near the fashionable right-bank boutiques as well as the Louvre and Musee d’Orsay.  It’s a very chic, contemporary and elegant space with a wonderful central courtyard for outdoor dining in nice weather.  For an especially quiet room, request one on the inner courtyard.  There is wi-fi in all the public spaces.

Finding a charming moderately priced hotel on the Left Bank is not easy so the 44 room Hotel De L’Abbaye located near the Luxembourg Gardens is a find. The salon suites (comparable to a junior suite) and the roomy duplex apartments with a small outdoor terrace overlooking the Parisian rooftops are excellent value. The “Large Rooms,” equivalent to a deluxe double, have both bathtubs and shower stalls. The standard rooms are very small but well priced. The room price includes a tasty continental breakfast.

Next door to the Hotel Montalembert and home to the extraordinary restaurant, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, is this less expensive alternative. The Junior Suites are good value for the money and often include the breakfast buffet.

A very charming and reasonably-priced hotel with comfortable rooms in a great neighborhood on the Left Bank convenient to the Musee D’Orsay and the Louvre.
