A Lovingly Compiled 'Grab and Go' List of Hotels, Restaurants, Art, Sightseeing, and Shopping.

This is a mind boggling proposition.  The sites range over thousands of years and are both discovered in Museums, ruins on the street, historical buildings, galleries, palazzos and churches.  There are numerous guide books which list these sites, but for us the best way to begin is with a tour by Enrico Bruschini.

  • Do yourself a favor and contact Enrico Bruschini. Formerly the art historian and curator of the American Embassy in Rome and the author of numerous books on the Vatican, including, In the Footsteps of Popes, A Spirited Guide to the Treasures of the Vatican, and Masters of the Vatican, Professor Bruschini is a charming, brilliant, and insightful guide.  Any one of his numerous tours of Rome  (and he’ll also happily arrange a unique tour to match your interests) will enlighten and excite you in a way that is not possible on your own. Among his many tours are the Sistine Chapel, the Forum, Baroque Rome, Churches in Rome, Caravaggio in Rome, etc etc etc.  One of the most exciting few hours we spent focused on the legendary Bernini fountain and the church of Sant’Agnese designed by Borromini in Piazza Navona, several Cararvaggio paintings in nearby churches as well as the surrounding architecture. His discussion combined Roman history and the history of art, religion and architecture in a way that was not only fascinating but directed our eyes and thoughts as we continued through Rome on our  own.  Rome is like an onion with so many layers to explore, and he peels them back to provide dazzling insights.
