The incomparable art and architecture of Venice can enrich the soul of any visitor. In churches and museums, discovering the art of Titian, Tiepolo and Tintoretto and other grand masters is transporting. The danger is getting carried away and over-programming a visit. Allow time to wander among the quiet little streets to travel back to a time far removed from the automobile and the usual experiences of city life. There is grid-lock in Venice, but it is the result of pedestrians and tour groups crowding the narrow streets. If the crowds are too maddening, walk away from San Marco and the tourist sites and plan to visit in the morning and later in the evening when the day-trippers have departed.
